What were you doing 11 years ago today?
Probably out bum-rushing through crowds of people to get your hands on Nicki Minaj's debut album, Pink Friday. Yes, 11 years ago today, Onika Tanya Maraj turned Friday Pink, and shit ain't been the same since.
Nicki's debut album, Pink Friday, not only made her an international Popstar but also showed that a female rapper doesn't need to be hypersexual to be hyper-successful. This culture-shifting album still holds the highest first-week sales for a female rap album with 375K units.
Her mega-hit, Super Bass, was just certified diamond. But, this album was more than Super Bass, it has fan favorites "Roman's Revenge" with Eminem, "Moment 4 Life" with Drake, and "Did It On'em." One of my personal faves is "Blazin" with Kanye:
How could it be, little me
Had the power to be the best B in the league
Yeah, inevitably, but could it be little me?
You was heckling me, now it's monotony winning regularly,
Which track is your favorite from this classic album?
Say Sumthin, Like, Share...Thanks!
The intro track will forever be one of my favorites. Girls Fall Like Dominoes, it's like she manifested about all the girls she named on that track. I like Blazin too but Kanye verse is soooo long, even tho I know every word.
👏👏👏👏👏 Dear Old Nick, did it on‘em.
