Vulture Magazine ranked the Top 100 Songs that defined New York Rap. We know that it would be dominated by men, but I was interested to see how many women made the list. Lil Kim dominated. See the ranking below:

Before I started looking at the songs listed I reread what the ranking is for and I thought what Nicki song was adefining NY song and I instantly thought of itty bitty piggy. It should have been higher. They did great with the Kim songs. I think bodak may have been high because of recency. But I’m from Chicago maybe Nyers felt it was very defining for them 🤷🏽♀️ Doesn’t make me think of NYC. It just so happens the artist is from there. And if that’s the criteria, more Nicki songs should

Nicki's placement is some bullshit! It's almost as if they forgot about her until they were almost done with the list, like they just tossed her name on there so they wouldn't piss anyone off. As far as I'm concerned the only thing they did right was leave Remy off the list.
I like the Lil Kim songs they included and I am glad that other women who we often overlook in hip hop were on the list.
I totally disagree with Bodak Yellow being on the list, especially above Itty Bitty Piggy. Is it the recency effect? Is it because it went #1? Or is it another shameless attempt at bolstering an industry plant and re-writing history? I will say that going #1 doesn’t equal cultural influence and impact. The fact that so many people can relate to Itty Bitty Piggy 10+ years after it was released on a Mixtape (a mixtape!) suggests it belongs much higher.
