Saweetie gave her Icy gang a treat when she playing a snippet of her new single. In part of the clip she raps, "He treated me wrong now you fckin' me right / He buy me flowers you flood me with ice / Huh, I wanna thug nigga, yeah / I love a thug nigga. He bout that talk but see you bout that life / I wanna thug nigga."
I really have grown to like Saweetie...the brand. But, the excitement I had after hearing her describe the process of putting together her album is slipping away the more I hear the musical direction she is going. It has nothing to do with sampling or lyrical content. It's the way she raps.
Saweetie rap style has always been a hurdle for me. She misses more than she makes, IMO. There is always something missing. However, when I heard her on "Back To The Streets," with Jhene Aiko I felt she found her pocket. Saweetie needs to be a melodic rapper. She can always sprinkle in some of the rap-rap. Be more Doja, less Megan. How many girls are doing the melodic rap thing successfully...I guess Coi Leray. That lane is not crowded and BTTS showed Saweetie can pull it off.
I really want the west coast AKA the best coast to win.
Do y'all think Saweetie can be a successful melodic rapper or should she stay with what seems to be working?
Say Sumthin, Like, Share...Thanks!
I like Saweetie. She makes score type of music( movies). I think this is all we are going to get. I think she is ok with it and unfortunately will not be around rapping in 10 years.
Honestly I like Saweetie but her music is hit or miss and you can tell she is doing things just for the commercial success!!!!! Me personally I always felt she should have kept the style and sound she had before she got with Quavo!!!! One of my favorite songs from her is called Focus, she wasn't talkin about using her 😺 to get what she want or shaking ass, she was rapping about being a smart little college girl, how her daddy taught her how to run game and how she is a hustler who is about her money. Now it feels like she trying to be the new member of the City Girls and there is nothing wrong wit…
