In 1994, Desiree Perez was arrested and indicted for conspiracy to possess w/ the intent to distribute 35 kilos of cocaine; and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. Reports say she faced up to 10-years in prison until she agreed to become a key informant for the DEA.
In a statement released by the White House they said, "Since her conviction, Ms. Perez has taken full accountability for her actions and has turned her life around. She has been gainfully employed and has been an advocate for criminal justice reform in her community.”
