What Terms Are Overused In Female Rap Discussions?

Female Rap Discussion.

There are certain words that I am sick of hearing when it comes to female rap: Flop, Organic, Versatile, and Carried By Radio. All these terms have lost any real meaning and are used as a crutch for people who want to generalize.

I still don't get the "carried by radio" argument besides it being something the Barbras made up as one of their many excuses for Nicki not doing better than other female rappers.

What terms do y'all think are overused in female rap discussions?

Say Sumthin, Tap The Heart, Share...Thanks!

So I disagree with the radio part...if you look at Big energy radio to sales/streams ratio that song was carried by radio.

The versatility talk DOES give off anti black vibes tbh and it's amazing WHO that label gets thrown on (Megan) when these girls main label is RAPPER. Pop being the "versatility" everyone keeps speaking of feels Antiblack because whose running pop?? White people.

Flop feels misconstrued nowadays because...what is considered a flop now its almost like anything out of the top 10 is a flop..and that is so ridiculous it's takes alot to even chart on billboard

It’s not an excuse did you see saweetie stats ? 20 millions of radio play, 1 millions streams and poor pure sales and she’s sitting on billboards she’s carried by radio like a lot of people sitting on billboards right now you should watch the stats and see that radio play a huge role and how nicki not doing better than the others girls when every week she broke a new records ????? Lmao Like I don’t get it you talk as if she’s washed up and didn’t got the higher sales for do we have a problem for the moment, was number one with the coi song and leading this week sales again with fivio lmao, just hit 25…

I don't get it as well, you will think Nicki minaj is do very poorly, for someone 13 years in, it is blessing to chart.

Carried by radio means airplay outweigh sales. Radio spins don’t show real demand. Meaning, artists who benefit mainly from radio will have a hard time selling albums Etc. We just saw this happen with Latto.

Versatile- I hate this one. I feel like it’s used to shit on mainly black female rappers because they don’t have a big white fan base. I didn’t start seeing this word everywhere until Megan went mainstream. I feel like the usage of the word is racially motivated..

Organic- its not organic if people aren’t genuinely interested in the song.

Flop- a flop is a flop. I mean..

THANK YOU! I go to a bunch of different bars/clubs in Houston, all races & crowds...if you're out no matter where you are, you are DEF going to hear: Thot Shit, Savage, Body. No matter if you're in Third Ward, Downtown or Midtown.

That's why I truly believe Savage was her crossover track. That is everyone's go to Megan song that is not black TBH. Sweetest Pie is just the icing on the cake. "I'm a real rap bitch, this ain't no pop shit" PERIOD

I feel like a lot of female rappers see the criticisms that Megan receives & to keep the heat off themselves. For example, Cardi’s last two singles were her singing. Mulatto is singing & softening up her cadence. Nicki was singing on Do we have a problem. Doechii’s first single on TDE she is also singing. Which is a shame because she really can rap her ass off. The only girls still rapping hard these days are the ones out of Houston (Meg, Ken, & Mona).
