ALLEGATIONS OF IMPROPER VOTING PROCEDURES, SEXUAL HARASSMENT, AND RAPE AGAINST THE RECORDING ACADEMY

WHEW CHILE...

It took the Recording Academy 5 months to come up with a reason to get rid of its first female CEO. Talk about bad timing. The Grammys are right around the corner.

The Recording Academy suspended Deborah Dugan for allegations of creating a "toxic" environment and engaging in "abusive and bullying conduct," according to a female worker. Ohhhh, now the academy is listening to women's concerns. How convenient.

Well, Deborah Dugan made serious allegations of her own against the Recording Academy:

  • Sexual Harassment

  • Improper Voting Procedures

  • Conflict of Interest Among Academy Board Members

  • Ex-Ceo Neil Portnow allegedly raping a female recording artist (YIKES!)

Dugan made these allegations Tuesday, in a 44-page complaint to the EEOC. Dugan claims she was suspended due to her pointing out the misconducts going at the academy.

SERVING MILLI VANILLI ON THE LOW

According to the New York Times, Dugan claimed, "the academy’s voting procedures are rife with irregularities that seemed to steer nominations to artists affiliated with board members." What is interesting is that Dugan was speaking about the 2019 process.

I remember hearing about the "secret nominating committee" that did not seem to be a secret. When the nominations were announced, a person from Spotify said, "Cardi is going to win a Grammy." He knew way before the show. Well, we know what happened. However, what really stood out that night was that another winner shouted out that same person during their acceptance speech. I thought, "streaming services are now being shouted out in Grammy speeches?"

I can't wait to see how this ends.
