Things are already heating up between Nicki Minaj and the Grammys, and we haven't even made it to nominations yet.
Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter released an exclusive story claiming Nicki Minaj's Pop hit "Super Freaky Girl" was kicked out of the Grammy's rap category and sent over to fight for a nomination in Pop. According to THR, Nicki submitted "Super Freaky Girl" for consideration in the rap category back in August; however, the rap committee overturned that submission and placed it in Best Pop Solo Performance, according to a source.
Now, this "source" is someone on the rap committee. Let me find out it's Brooklyn Johnny...LOL.
DEAR GRAMMYS
In response, Nicki Minaj posted a 16 min video, "Dear Grammys," where she seemed more focused on campaigning for Latto to get kicked out of rap categories than arguing why Super Freaky Girl should not be moved to Pop.
Nicki, who consistently drags other artists into her beefs, asked, "If Super Freaky Girl Is A Pop Song, What Song Is Big Energy?" She then went into her usual diatribe about corporate giants and people behind the scenes elevating new artists before U-turning to answer her own question, "If Super Freaky Girl is Pop, then so is Big Energy. If you move Super Freaky Girl out of Rap and put it in Pop, do the same thing with Big Energy."
If this isn't some crab-in-a-barrel bullshit, then I do not know what is. Nicki Minaj finds comfort in beefing with other Black women and uses it as a distraction from addressing real issues. Nicki having a song on the rap charts and now being in a Pop category for the Grammys is not unusual. Lizzo's "Truth Hurt" spent 13 weeks on the rap charts and then competed in Best Pop Solo Performance at the Grammys. Also, she does not know what the committees did or plan to do with "Big Energy," which HITS Daily Double reported 2 weeks ago, had an uphill battle because the song is considered more Pop.
Speaking of committees, Nicki should be worried about who is this rap committee person who ran to THR to tell them this story. This was obviously done to embarrass her and to provoke a reaction that would turn off any sympathy votes for a Grammy. Did Nicki get tricked out of her spot....again?
This may be a sign that Nicki Minaj will be blackballed again, and this time they plan to pack her the fck up.
Speak, Heart, Share...Thanks!
Nicki is far from perfect, but let’s not act like they aren’t moving the goalposts when it comes towards her. Nicki has every right to feel the way she does about her craft, like everyone else. Hope people stop being so bitter and see the bigger picture, the Grammys COMMITTEE is a hot mess and that needs serious fixing. Ebro called SFG a pop song a few weeks ago, when a fan ask why it wasn’t on certain playlisting, I’m sure that wasn’t a coincidence. However, The age shaming and bringing up her family isn’t called for at all. Nicki didn’t R anyone, so using that drag against her is null and voidEd and looking from the outside in, everyone…
Smh typical Yaya, can never report on Nicki objectively. Her speaking out & standing up for herself makes her a clown how exactly ? She wasn’t shading Scratch Off or her song, was simply referencing it because it’s produced by the same producer & is sonically similar. Her points were very valid & she also mentioned Drake, Doja & Post Malone in her live as well. Doja was nominated for Need to know last year in rap category & so was Saweetie for Best Friend , Lizzo is not a rapper, additionally I believe has to have a certain percentage of singing or rapping to be in certain categories.Mc Hammer who used the same sample was nominated & won in…
