On Monday, ABC will air "Real Queens of Hip Hop," exploring what women in Hip Hop have given to the culture. It will star Mc Lyte, Monie Love, Lauryn Hill, Eve, Megan Thee Stallion, City Girls, and more.
It's funny that I was thinking about how women don't like being called "female rappers" because it separates them into a lower rap class from men. But, now, if you think about it, the girls are running the culture. They are where the money and attention are. Pee was on TBC with Lakeyah, and they asked why he is so willing to back female rappers, and he co-signed; that is where the money is. Even though it's expensive to put on a girl, the ROI is crazy.
Also, I know personally that if something doesn't let me know it's talking about the girls in rap vs. the men, I don't rush to check it out unless it's one of my fave male rappers. So, to me, the term "female rapper" is more valuable than just the word rapper. Look at how many fake female rapper pages the messy bottoms are creating. Those pages with "female rap/rapper" in the title are usually trash and are STAN pages, not Hip Hop pages.
