To the surprise of everyone, including Saweetie, her new song featuring Doja Cat "Best Friend" dropped tonight. Saweetie was not happy and expressed her disappointment with her label Warner Records by tweeting,
"I am extremely disappointed in my label WBR for prematurely releasing a single I was so excited about. I feel disrespected. I'm hands on with ALL of my creative & had such a dope rollout for "best friends." The thirst for clout & $ is real & it overrides the artists' art.
She also addressed an issue I noticed; Warner dropped the wrong version of the song. I hate listening to clean versions of songs, and that is all they dropped tonight.
Remember when I spoke about someone saying that Saweetie was up next? I responding by asking the next to be sabotaged or smear campaign. It's trash for a label to do this.
Update: 12/4
DJ Booth's EIC tweeted, "Warner did not officially release this record. We were notified 8 hours ago by the label that it is being related until January. Very odd situation."
I find it odd that it was done 8 hours before the original release date. Warner didn't know earlier that song was not postponed until January???
Hip Hop DX writer Devon Jefferson decided to do what most men in the media do with female rappers...attempt to portray Saweetie as if she was overly emotional. Hip Hop DX's headline reads, "Saweetie Accuses Her Label Of Botching Doja Cat-Assisted "Girl Anthem" In Twitter Meltdown.
Any sign of emotion by a female rapper and it's characterized in a negative tone. If y'all want to see a meltdown go back to The Weeknd's reaction to his Grammy snubs.
