Is Saweetie The Hip Hop Queen of Social Media Marketing?

On Twitter, some people were discussing how good Saweetie is at social media. They highlighted that she does have a degree in communications and how she uses it to her advantage. For those who don't know, yes, Saweetie is one of our college-educated rappers. She has a degree from USC.

I agree with many of the comments made on how smart Saweetie is when it comes to social media. I cannot think of a female rapper doing better marketing of her brand through social media. From Saweetie's Tiktok videos to Icy Life Vlog to her Icy University, she knows how to cater to her FANs. Everyone can enjoy Saweetie without feeling like you joined a cult, LOL.

What Saweetie is doing is what Cardi B is trying to do. Saweetie is putting out such engaging content that she makes you forget her main title is "rapper." Since she is so good at putting out content, she does not have the same pressure to put out music as her peers. She is almost viewed as a content creator who sells us the lifestyle of a female rapper. That is the genius in her approach to branding.

WHEN YOU'RE SEEN AS COMPETITION

One comment did have me giving the side-eye, and of course, it came from a guy. He highlighted that Saweetie stays out of the "bullshit." Critics say this about most female rappers before they have success. It's easy to keep out of the bullshit when you are not a "threat." Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, and Lizzo were all out of the "bullshit" until they topped the charts.

Let's not act like when people were coming for Saweetie's Bay Area card she did not clapback.

"When you don't make moves and you don't climb up the ladder, everybody loves you because you're not competition"

It will be interesting to see how people view Saweetie if she tops the charts and become the target of STANs who now view you as a threat to their fave and blogs who are trying to keep or garner a relationship with other female rappers.

It will also be interesting if her content changes to be more about defending herself, or will it still stay fun?
