Megan Thee Stallion is one of the hottest new rappers in Hip-Hop. The excitement surrounding Megan, coming from both women & men, hasn't been seen since the rise of Nicki Minaj. Like the Queens rapper, Megan is using alter-egos to help differentiate herself from her peers.
In 2018, Megan Thee Stallion introduced us to Tina Snow, which gave us the viral hit song, Big Ole Freak. Megan describes Tina Snow as the female version of rapper Pimp C.
On May 17th, Megan Thee Stallion will drop her follow-up EP named Fever💋. On this project, we will get to meet alter-ego Hot Girl Meg. Megan describes her as the party girl. If you have seen the promotional photos for the project, Hot Girl Meg is marketed as a ”whole lotta woman” like Pam Grier aka Foxy Brown🔥.
With all the excitement over Fever, I began to wonder about expectations. After Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, she is the female rapper who gets the most attention from the media. As Cardi has weekly meltdowns and lackluster performances, fans and media are looking at Megan to be the new face of female rap. So, this is perfect timing for a new project. However, I wonder what are the expectations of this project. It's not being marketed as her debut album and it's not a mixtape. If this project isn't viewed as good at Tina Snow, will fickle fans and media just throw Megan to the side? Considering this is not an album, I do not have the high expectations for it to have a certain narrative/storyline. I already know that I'm getting only one of her alter-egos. I would think that on her debut album fans would get a bit of Tina Snow and Hot Girl Meg to make a complete album. But that's just my thoughts. You can never tell how fans/media will overreact in today's climate.
Sound off! Is Fever a make or break for Megan Thee Stallion?
