Megan Thee Stallion Outshines The Writing As Host And Musical Guest On Saturday Night Live

Last night, Megan Thee Stallion joined an elite club when she pulled double duties as host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live. If there were any doubts about Megan's ability to do live sketch comedy, all that was put aside after seeing Megan flex her comedic chops and natural charisma to outshine the lackluster writing that was given to her.

FAVORITE SKETCHES (Not in any order)

HOT GIRL HOSPITAL

Megan did her thang playing the ghetto nurse we all hope is never around when we need help, LOL. She had the wig, the eye rolls, and the hands were moving, and even though one could easily chalk this up as stereotype comedy that shows like this lean too much on, I found myself enjoying it because of Megan. When Megan refused to page a doctor for a patient because "she fake" and said, "Imagine...imagine me saying paging Dr. Simmons. Couldn't be me." I laughed out loud.

That is exactly how people act. Even in the middle of emergencies, they still act petty 😂😂😂😂

GIRL TALK

"Girl Talk" had SNL cast member Ego Nwodim playing a talk show host who gives Black women advice. But this advice comes in one word, "Girl." I immediately got it😂

WORKOUT CLASS

Megan played the "booty booty booty booty rockin' everywhere" fitness instructor in this sketch. This was the only sketch where I think Megan was outshined because the flat asses on those white girls were just too shocking.

CLASSROOM

This was a strong sketch because it was comedy mixed with a broader message. Megan played "Amy," one of the STEM students dealing with a substitute teacher who thinks because the students are Black, she has to be Mr. Clark from "Lean On Me." This was probably my fave sketch.

ANXIETY

Dressed in beauty pageant gowns with sashes that read "Underpaid," "Overworked," "Overwhelmed," "Overlooked, "Insecure," and "Anxiety;" Megan Thee Stallion performed "Anxiety" off her sophomore album "Traumazine."

This song is one of Megan's most vulnerable tracks on her album, and it showed as the 3 x Grammy winner started to tear up as she rapped the verse about speaking on her mama. She held it together to finish the performance, but it definitely was a moment that touched many of the people watching.

Megan later returned to perform "NDA" and "Plan B."

OVERALL

Besides showing off her comedy chops, Megan made SNL Blacker than ever. I have never seen so many Black cast members in SNL sketches in my life. It was good to see the often underutilized Black actors get a chance to shine.

Overall, Megan outshined the writing and showed why she is the "IT GIRL.'

Speak, Heart, Share...Thanks!
