Megan Thee Stallion Unfollows DaBaby On Instagram And What About It?

MEGAN THEE STALLION ON HER UNFOLLOW SHIT

Didn't I just speak on how blogs/STANs will create narratives around certain social media unfollows while sweeping others under the rug?

In another episode of As The Unfollow Turns, Megan Thee Stallion's undercover fans try to make something out of Meg unfollowing DaBaby, AKA My Baby. As reported last week, D-lister Tory Lanez finally got his collab with DaBaby cleared after initially "promoting" the song back in January. He dropped the single and

music video on Monday with little to no reaction on social media.

Yesterday, after DaBaby finally promoted the song on his Instagram page, the people who keep track of the follows and unfollows on IG caught that Megan Thee Stallion had unfollowed DaBaby.

The usual suspects are running around accusing Megan of being "mad" and "childish." You would have thought Megan did a whole unfollow spree just to unfollow DaBaby the way these fools are talking. While these narratives cater to a specific group, who need a distraction from them constantly failing, the situation at hand is better viewed through the eyes of an adult, not children.

BLACK WOMEN & SELF CARE

I am not going to attack DaBaby over this issue. The song and video were done before Tory Lanez decided to shoot Megan. DaBaby's choice to clear the record is his business. However, DaBaby's business decision does not negate Megan Thee Stallion's right to protect her mental health.

Naomi Osaka's withdrawal from the French Open sparked a much-needed discussion about Black women protecting their mental health. In a Boston Globe article written by Renee Graham, she wrote, "Naomi Osaka is doing something that Black women are rarely expected to do: She's taking care of herself."

Megan Thee Stallion, fresh off her social media break, probably unfollowed DaBaby as a form of self-care, and if she is mad too...WHAT ABOUT IT??? (with my Ariana Grande ponytail flip). She is not obligated to watch clips of her attacker on her timeline. While DaBaby is in promo mode, Megan is smartly protecting

her peace of mind and fck what a small toxic group of people on social media have to say about it.

Tory Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion as she was walking away, allegedly, and had her leaking on the Hollywood Hills streets. This is probably still one of Megan's scariest and traumatic nights of her life. She was lucky the bullets only struck her in the feet. Meg could have been killed. This is not a TV show, this is some real-life shit. Seeing promo for the flop of the summer is probably not something she wants on her timeline.

So, while DaBaby made a business decision, Megan made a mental health decision, and I applaud her for that. All Black women should follow this example. Stop thinking you owe friends/family your mental happiness over this social media shit.

Keep streaming the song of the summer, Thot Shit!
