On Tuesday, DJBooth's EIC tweeted, "Every major record label has priority acts and non-priority acts. If you sign a deal, you need to do everything in your power to make sure you're not only designated a priority — immediately after signing — but that you *remain* a priority. Otherwise... good luck."
While we have discussed the blackballing of artists in detail several times, we have only glossed over the topic of who is a priority at their label and who is not. Looking at who is a priority does play a factor in why one artist may end up doing better than another, no matter the size of their fanbase.
If Artist A is getting the full backing and budget of their label and Artist B is getting minimal support, then Artist A has the opportunity to have her music heard outside of core fans. While Artist B will have to rely more on her core fanbase to promote the music to casual listeners.
Let's play a game. How many artists below are a priority at their label?

Say Sumthin, Like, Share...Thanks!
I think QC has gotten all they wanted out CG. They are getting the TLC treatment. I really don't see Pee around as much as he was when it was just Yung Miami aka Caresha. Cardi is the main priority over there. I wonder how many albums does she owe, before she stop being the main focus. Doja is the main priority because her and Kesha are the only ones signed to Kemosabe. Saweetie is umm.. idk what to say. Who is Saweetie target audience? I'm just confused about some of the music lately. Megan situation is a lil tricky. She has RN as management, 300 as distribution and 1501 as her label. Its hard to tell what is happening.…
In order:
Cardi, Doja, Saweetie, Megan
And I placed Megan last because she’s signed to 2 independent labels and Saweetie seems to have a bigger budget and better people(machine) behind her that know how to push her music.
