FLASHBACK FRIDAY: WENDY VS. ANGIE
Wendy Williams has been making the rounds promoting her upcoming Lifetime biopic, Wendy Williams The Move. Wendy, being Wendy, is stirring the pot by alluding to sleeping with rap legend/actor Method Man and talking about her ex-husband.
We will see if any of that makes her biopic, but what I hope isn't left on the cutting room floor is her altercation with radio legend Angie Martinez.
In 1997, Wendy Williams and Angie Martinez worked as on-air DJs at Hot 97 in NY. Like now, Wendy loved to poke people, even if they were her co-workers.
At the time, Martinez was dating Tribe Called Quest rapper Q-Tip. Wendy would make snarky remarks about the relationship on air. After getting tired of people continuously mentioning how Wendy was taking jabs at her, Angie decided to confront Wendy and ask her to stop. Wendy, with her stank attitude, agreed, and that truce lasted a few weeks until Angie heard Wendy say on-air, "I'm not the one dating a rapper up here...uuuck. If I was, maybe I would like that song."
Angie then went to management about Wendy's behavior. That approach worked for another few weeks, and then...
Angie Martinez is told to check out Wendy's website. When she got on the site, she read, "One of my co-workers is dating Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest. Oh well. I guess some women like men who like men."
At this point, I feel like punching Wendy!
Angie explains, "Everybody was gay to Wendy. Every rapper you could think of in that era, I had heard Wendy Williams call them gay. Not one or two. Like every one of them. She was all about the gay rapper. That was her thang."
That was the last straw for Angie. The next day, she went to work early to confront Wendy. Just as she was calming herself down, she sees Wendy bouncing to the bathroom with her big weave like she didn't have a care in the world. Wendy sees Angie and says, "Hey, Angieeeee."
That made Angie's blood boil again. She waited for Wendy to come out of the restroom. Once Wendy exited the bathroom, Angie said, "Didn't I tell you to leave me the fck alone?!
Wendy played dumb and rolled her eyes, and that is when Angie started windmilling on that ass, LOL!
After that incident, both ladies got suspended and had very successful careers.
If this is not included in her biopic, Wendy can keep it.
This story was told in Angie Martinez's book "My Voice."
Say Sumthin, Like, Share...Thanks!
